“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not self-seeking; it keeps no record
of wrongs. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and
always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 134:7
Unconditional love means to love someone regardless of their actions or beliefs. In religion unconditional love is used to describe God’s love through the forgiveness of Christ. The people are loved unconditionally as a child of a higher power.
A parent loves their child unconditionally at the moment of his birth. As the child grows so do their behaviors. When the child does something bad, the parent does not stop loving the child, the parent teaches the child. This changes the child’s behaviors. The parent continues to love the child unconditionally and the child learns by example what unconditional love is.
Harold Becker said, “…the greatest power known to mankind is that of unconditional love.” In unconditional love, love is given freely to the loved one no matter what. Unconditional love is an act of the feelings regardless of will. Unconditional love is an unlimited way of being. We are without any limit to our thoughts and feelings in life and can create any reality we choose to focus our attention on. The power of unconditional love is within each of us.
Unconditional love of self is the foundation once a person is able to love himself without conditions they will be able to love others without conditions. If a person is looking outside themselves for love they may never find unconditional love or even enough love to be happy.
Practicing forgiveness of self and others, letting it go because it is more harm to you than good, really making an effort at being non-judgmental of yourself and others, this is the way to unconditional love for yourself and others. I know it and I understand it. I work on it continually every day of my life. So I am not saying it is easy. But this is a way of reaching true happiness and unconditional love in our lives.
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friend.” John 15:13
